| 2009 |

Starting of a new year as well as a new semester. Just returned to my room and snagged a lot of Asian snacks to aid me in my studies for several months. The temperature has dropped fairly low, and it will be below ten degrees Fahrenheit for the next two or three days. It's a good thing I don't have to be outside for too many hours. Monday is a holiday, which to say isn't so great since it will be my excuse to slack off.
As I look back, 2008 was a pretty good year for me. I did well in school and even spent two months in Hong Kong and five days in Japan. Time spent there was great and I hope to go back soon. I miss my relatives and the food. I do hope I get to experience the night life of Hong Kong, especially the street stalls selling food. I can't believe I missed my chance at eating stinky tofu! 2008 also was a time I lost things, but I think they made me grow up. I guess when I spent some time by myself, I began thinking this and that.
Looking forward to the new year. Happy 2009.

| Idiots |
[Oct. 10th, 2008|10:29 pm] |
Searched through my folders to attempt an update of some sort but I came up with nothing. Guess that's a sign I should open up Photoshop more often. Currently juggle reading between "The Remains of the Day" by Kazuo Ishiguro and "Dance Dance Dance" by Haruki Murakami.
Schedule is hectic and I feel like I'm still on vacation mode. Can't stand idiots who can't appreciate art for what it is. It's totally fine to not understand contemporary art, but you shouldn't condescend work you have no insight on. Also, it's an art history course for a reason so stop complaining about memorizing 25-30 images of artwork, location, and date. If one person could do it, so could you. Maybe if you attend class you wouldn't be struggling. And complaining about taking attendance during lecture? Really? Is that something to even talk about? What are we, in third grade? Calling the professor egoistic isn't helping much on your grade either. Just because he shows slides of places he went to doesn't mean he's self-absorbed. Just stop talking, really. There are enough idiots in the world and shutting your mouth really helps my ears and brains. |

| Kaneshiro & WKW |
[May. 22nd, 2008|11:59 pm] |
I didn't intend to venture my entries outside of icons but I need an outlet to express my recent findings.
A couple weeks ago, I downloaded Kamisama Mou Sukoshi Dake (1998). It was a good drama, but it was annoying at times and reminded me of Korean dramas where I wanted to pull my hair out. I took notice of the male lead and decided to dedicate my time to find Kaneshiro Takeshi's projects he was ever involved in. I knew the guy was good-looking but it never crossed my mind to what degree it went to. I guess I went a little nuts on this journey since I don't even go this far for the Joo boy.
Anyway, this is when I stumbled into Wong Kar-Wai. Mind you, I know who the guy is. I've seen In the Mood for Love (2000) and 2046 (2004) a couple years ago and yes, thought they were great. When I saw Chungking Express (1994), I thought it was typical of Wong's style to draw up such stories and it wasn't as heavy as the two I've seen.
But, it was with Fallen Angels (1995) did I decide to fall in love with Wong's works. It helps to know that some of my favorite Hong Kong veterans are in here as well.
My first love but really, who cannot fall for him?
Gorgeous looking even with all the hair in her eyes.
 Daydreaming too much about me.
Here's a synopsis from IMDB: A disillusioned killer embarks on his last hit but first he has to overcome his affections for his cool, detached partner. Thinking it's dangerous and improper to become involved with a colleague he sets out to find a surrogate for his affections. Against the sordid and surreal urban nightscape (set in contemporary Hong Kong), he crosses path with a strange drifter looking for her mysterious ex-boyfriend and an amusing mute trying to get the world's attention in his own unconventional ways.
I notice a lot of people take a liking towards Chungking Express over Fallen Angels, but something about the latter hits home for me. Maybe it's the way Lai were killing the baddies ;)
I have Ashes of Time (1994), As Tears Go By (1988), and Days of Being Wild (1991) to watch and all I really need to finish off this collect is Happy Together (1997).
I admit, I tend to stay away from Chinese films and dramas because of how recycled the storylines are and how the new stars were, and still are, butchering things. Watching Wong's films makes me want to go back to my roots and relive the moments of good cinematography of the Chinese. If Wong can convince me to learn Chinese again, I'm sold on how spectacular he can make actions and silence evoke emotion.
*Goes back to Kaneshiro journey*
